Deepening Roots

I have four house plants growing in my apartment - an orchid, lucky bamboo plants, a spider plant and a curry plant. The first three were handed down to me by former neighbors who were leaving town and the last I obtained from an Indian Grocery store for seasoning my curries with their spicy leaves. I am proud that even after an year they have all survived. I was a bit worried during fall when the curry plant shed all its leaves, leaving a skeletal stem behind. The plant sprouted some leaves again in March. I wanted to understand the science behind growing these plants and flowers.

Last weekend, I attended a 2-day workshop called Deepening Roots where I learned a lot more. This workshop had a focus on organic agriculture, permaculture design along with health & wellness. I learned a lot about composting, creating the right soil, selecting the right plants and accomplishing sustainable agriculture.

In this blog I will chronicle my efforts at setting up a little, organic vegetable garden.
